Please excuse the delay the last few months have been filled with a variety of obligations. We have also been clarifying certain aspect of our endeavor.
Both of our boys had Birthdays since our last correspondence, Liam is 1 and walking everywhere. Levi is three and is running everywhere, both are getting into everything they can get their hands on. Currently we are visiting Mike’s parents in Iowa and enjoying time with Nana and Papa B. Mike will be back in forth between the midwest and Lynchburg over the summer while Beth Ann and the boys spend an extended amount of time with Nana and Papa B.
At the beginning of March this past year we had a church planter assessment in Atlanta. Through that assessment we discovered areas to help us grow and be aware of while we are pursuing our calling to start a new work in the Richmond area. This assessment was a process of written documentation, and live interviews, helping us to thoroughly think through our church planting desires. The assessment process also helped us and the church we are working with in Richmond to determine time line and mile markers. We are so thankful for the help this assessment provided.
NOW: We are moving forward to Richmond and will move to the area in August 1, 2016. Our plans are to partner under the leadership of a local church called Movement Church which meets near downtown Richmond. www.moverichmond.org This church was recommended to us back in August of last year by one of our pastors at Thomas Road. The church has a strong desire to multiply and they have a clear strategy to implement us into that process of starting a new work in another area of Richmond. Both Movement and Thomas Road will be invested in this endeavor helping us get on the ground (financial support) and build a team (sending people).
NEXT: Though TRBC and Movement will financially support this new work we will still be in need of partnering with a few other churches and or individual partners. Currently we are looking to raise $700 more a month for the next 12 months. This financial support will help us to live in the area, and keep us focused on the start of the church. Your financial support will also allow us to do some ministry outreach in the community.
We are looking for churches and individuals to step in and commit a portion of support to help us fulfill our financial needs.
Key Focuses and prayer requests
Pray for our community and that we would make solid connections.
Developing a core team to help reach the community and find effective avenues of community outreach. We did a lot of this in Arizona both through service projects at public schools as well as hosting community barbecues with people we had met. However, we must acknowledge this is a different environment, but we will look for avenues that accomplish a similar goal.
Build a large base of physical and financial support. A portion of my job is to raise support for the following year. These funds would be for the purpose of, personal support, creating community engagement opportunities, and ministry materials. Our prayer is for 13 partner churches to join in on this endeavor.
Working through our growth plan that we received from the assessment. Based on our assessment results, we have been working with Movement Church to develop a process that will help us walk through this growth plan. The first 9 months we are there, we will be based out of their campus working through our key focuses. The plan is to send us out with the team God has gives to us and start a new work . This time frame is not set in stone, but is an intentional target we are aiming to reach in conjunction with an evaluation period to determine next steps. The plan is to send us out with a healthy core team, and a significant amount of resources to start the new work.
While in our apprenticeship process we will be asked to help multiply community groups in Midlothian. Currently the church has a group in the area and they want to see that group reach out and develop new groups. i along with the group leaders will help to facilitate this change. We have done this multiple times in previous ministries and feel that with God’s foreknowledge of the area and our experience we can help significantly in this process. Pray that God would point us to where he is already at work and where we can have the greatest amount of influence. During this time we will find ways to live on mission and share our faith in Christ while loving on our community.
Finally pray for our family during this transition. We are very excited about the year to come, but none-the-less it is a transition.
